About INFOPÊCHE

INFOPÊCHE PROJECT Established in 1984 and executed as a project by FAO and fundedby the Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD), this project was initially called the Regional fish trade Information and cooperation service for Africa processing and Marketing information and advisory services for Africa. It became, following a response to a request made by its advisory and coordinating committee and a recommendation made by a consultation of legal experts to the Director General of FAO, the Intergovernmental Organization for Marketing Information and Cooperation Services of Fishery Products in Africa (INFOPÊCHE) at the Conference of Plenipotentiaries held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, on 12th and 13th December 1991. Since 2004, INFOPÊCHE has created a unit called INFOSA, which covers the countries of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region, as a project initiated by its initial donor, the Kingdom of Norway. This unit is based in Windhoek, NAMIBIA.

 

 

 

INFOPÊCHE covers 29 countries INFOPÊCHE covers 31 countries, 13 of which are covered by the Sub office INFOSA. <br>The member countries of INFOPÊCHE are: Angola, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Congo, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal and Togo. <br>And its INFOSA unit covers the following countries: Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Our missions

The missions of INFOPÊCHE are:
  • (a) provide information on markets fishery product, particularly the outlet and the supply outlook within and outside of Africa ;
  • (b) give opinion upon technical innovation, specification to be applied to the products, the processing method, the quality standards complied with the market requirement ;
  • (c) to help to investigate for new products and promote less consumed products ;
  • (d) Train the staff of the administration and fishery industries on trade techniques.

Our objectives

INFOPÊCHE's objectives are to :
  • (a) to contribute to the development and modernization of the fisheries sector of the contracting parties ;
  • (b) to contribute to more balanced supplies of fishery products to the contracting parties ;
  • (c) to make the best use of export opportunities within and outside Africa ;
  • (d) to promote technical and economic cooperation among the contracting parties.
