A workshop for the promotion and development of the fishing sector in San Pedro, Côte d'Ivoire.
From February 11 to 12, 2025, the city of San Pedro will host a training workshop dedicated to the promotion and development of the fishing and aquaculture sectors. This event is organized by INFOPÊCHE, the Intergovernmental Organization for Information and Cooperation on the Marketing of Fishery Products in Africa.
Strengthening the capacities of stakeholders in the fisheries sector
This workshop aims to strengthen the capacities of artisanal fishing actors by focusing on good fishing practices, processing, and distribution of fishery products. It will also include awareness-raising on sanitary standards and quality requirements, with the aim of promoting sustainable management of fishery resources and improving the competitiveness of Ivorian products in local and international markets.
High-level supervision
The event will be chaired by Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Chairman of the Board of INFOPÊCHE and Minister of Animal and Fishery Resources. It will be led by Akaffou Atsé Casimir Éric, Director of INFOPÊCHE, in collaboration with several sector experts.
The organizers expect this training to lead to increased adoption of sustainable fishing practices, better mastery of sanitary standards, and a significant improvement in the quality of processed and marketed products.
A comprehensive training adapted to field needs
Participants will come from various backgrounds in the artisanal fishing sector: fishermen, processors, distributors, and traders, as well as local technical agents from the Ministry of Animal and Fishery Resources (MIRAH).
The training modules will include:
- Sustainable management of fishery resources
- Hygiene and sanitary safety of fishery products
- Improvement of processing and distribution processes
A key initiative for the modernization of the sector
“In any case, two days of truth for evaluating the training and the level after learning, with the presentation of the workshop’s final report,” said the Director of INFOPÊCHE, emphasizing the importance of this initiative for the sector’s development.
This workshop is part of a broader effort to structure and modernize artisanal fishing in Côte d'Ivoire. By promoting the adoption of quality standards and eco-friendly practices, INFOPÊCHE and MIRAH aim to improve the competitiveness of the fisheries sector while preserving Côte d'Ivoire’s natural resources.
