Regional Seminar on the Promotion of Trade in Fishery Products in Abidjan, December 11 and 12, 2024
From 11 to 12 December 2024, Abidjan hosted the 3rd regional seminar on the quality and competitiveness of fishery products, co-organized by COMHAFAT and INFOPECHE with the theme: « Improving the quality and competitiveness of fishery products in the COMHAFAT area »
A major event for the fisheries sector
This seminar brought together experts, representatives of member states and regional organizations, speakers and decision-makers, under the chairmanship of Mr. Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources of Côte d'Ivoire.
In his speech, the Minister highlighted the strategic importance of fisheries and aquaculture for sustainable development, food security and the fight against poverty in Africa. He also highlighted the opportunities offered by the AfCFTA to boost intra-African trade in fishery products.
Concrete objectives for sustainable impacts
This seminar aims to :
- Strengthen the skills of sector stakeholders to better access international markets.
- Promote intra-African trade in fishery products.
- Identify obstacles and propose suitable solutions for the competitiveness of fishery products.
Support from partners and recognition
The organizers, COMHAFAT and INFOPECHE thanked the Ivorian government for its support and hospitality, as well as technical partners such as ECOWAS, the European Union, FAO, and Japanese cooperation for their continued support.
